Communication as a Service (Hosted VoIP, Hosted PBX, Cloud Telephony)
There are many serious considerations for any company considering switching to hosted Telephony (CaaS). Choosing the right provider, the right solution, and how to integrate into an organization's existing IT and business practices, while still planning for the future, can be a daunting task.
For some organizations, functionality and features are going to drive the decision making process, for others it is the transition from a Capex to an Opex centric financial...

Post number 4 in a series of 12 from one of our provider partners, NTT.
Allocating Costs of Infrastructure across Multiple Project Sponsors has long been an issue because it has prevented many projects from getting started in the first place. One of the customers that I have been working with has been putting off an Active Directory domain consolidation and migration for over 5 years because of all the buy-in needed to get the project approved.
When I think of this topic I frequently think of an old Dilbert cartoon about “Battlin...

Perhaps the primary reason that the cloud was invented was for developers. Development work has always seemed to be relegated to cast-offs of the rest of the technology stack. One of the primary reasons is that code wasn’t always written to be hardware independent. Back in the 80’s and 90’s, if you were developing in a Unix platform (Solaris, HPUX, AIX) there were hardware-specific calls that could be made by the programs to optimize them on the platform....

In my first post we laid some groundwork for what cloud computing was and where it came from. In this post we will start to explore ways that large enterprises can take advantage of cloud services to expand their global reach. In the connected world that we live in, it is impossible to not have operations all around the world. Advances in telecommunications, transportation and collaboration and have made global business the norm. Many markets that 20 years ago were...

This series of blog posts from one of our provider partners, NTT, will look at some of the reasons large enterprises should be thinking about the cloud. For small environments, using cloud service providers may be the only way they can preserve cash and create an idea that will survive in the market. It is a little more difficult for large organizations to go this route. There are several reasons why:
1. Large organizations typically have already invested in infrastructure so there is a sunk cost that they must absorb
2. Larger organizations...

HPC (high performance computing) refers to the use of supercomputers or clusters of computers to solve difficult computational problems that are either too large for standard computers or would take too long to solve. HPC has the potential to enable innovation and discovery at a faster pace than ever before, which means that high performance computing will be coming to every industry sector sooner or later.
There is a growing need for IT organizations to adopt high performance computing to handle ever-increasing workloads. Find out how Nimbix...

Throughout many candid conversations with my Clients, I am always left surprised by how many have lost money through incorrect billings, or untracked services. A hundred dollars here, a hundred thousand dollars there – IT companies are losing copious amounts of cash every month due to ineffective telecom expense tracking methods. Let’s be honest, folks: using an excel spreadsheet to track 25 different service providers, along with the monthly billing amounts for each and every service attributed to each said provider, is not cutting...

Going green in the data center space is continuing to gain popularity as energy costs are continuing to rise and environmental regulations are getting firmer. There is growing pressure from environmentalists and the general public for governments to offer green incentives, such as monetary support for the creation and maintenance of ecologically responsible technologies. Some of the top technologies being implemented are virtualized servers/storage, consolidated servers and energy star qualified devices, hardware that employs newer, low-power/low-wattage...

It amazes us to talk to so many clients who do not know their current power utilization in their datacenter. Too often do we run into people who have simply purchased colocation space under the traditional retail model and figure as long as they are under 80 % of their current breakered capacity they are ok. Typically most won’t even worry about power utilization until they get an email from their service provider notifying them that they need to purchase more space. Even more common are those who have spent time, money, and resources...

Welcome to my first blog post. I can’t believe it’s already 2012. That means I’ve been “in the business”
for 16 years. I still feel young but the calendar and gray hair tell a different story...
For my first blog post I want to travel back in time and reminisce on why I started Bandwidth Advisors.
I always planned to start a company. The bigger challenge was: who, what, where, when, why and how. My pursuit began early and I habitually asked myself (and others) “what unique value could I deliver to the marketplace?" and "what...
